FAQ: Website Design and SEO

Web Design FAQ's

1. How long does it usually take to build a website and take it live?
It depends on a couple of things:
  • How quickly you can get us the materials we need
  • How many projects are ahead of yours in our queue
We try to complete the rough draft of your home page within 10 business days of the time we get all the materials from you. From there, it depends on how quickly we all agree that the home page looks great. Once that page is done, the rest of the site is relatively easy to fill out.

We strive to complete most websites within one month, including the on page SEO.
2. What can I expect once I sign up?
You will immediately receive a series of emails that you’ll want to open. One of the emails will have a 35 minute video you’ll want to watch that will guide you step-by-step on the materials you’ll need to compile for us to start working on your website. The other emails will be about signing up for hosting, email marketing services, and other details.

Once you receive the home page mock up, you can approve it or send it back to us for edits or revisions. We don't move forward with the site until this page perfectly meets your needs. Once the home page is approved, we will create the sub pages of the site and then send you a beta version where you can click through the entire site and make final changes before we take the site live for you.
3. Who owns the website and has control over the content?
You do-- it is 100% your website.
4. Can I add my own content to the website or do I need you guys to do that?
We highly recommend that your site is built in Wordpress. This enables you to log in any time and easily make content changes on your end. You can add new pages, blog posts, videos, audios, and so on without needing a web designer.

If you require design help after the site goes live, we charge $65 an hour for this.
5. What is your refund policy?
If you pre-pay for the website, you have 15 days to request a refund. If you are on a payment plan, you have 15 days to request a refund for the first installment. After this period, there are no refunds unless you are dissatisfied with the quality of the home page we have built for you. We will basically keep working on the home page until you are happy (almost always we can nail it within 3 attempts).
6. If I have to do the 12 month payment plan, does that mean my site won’t go live until it’s paid off?
No, we will still build your website and take it live as quickly as possible. It’s just that you will have a longer period of time to pay it off.
7. Who hosts the site? Do I pay for hosting?
Yes, you as the client pay for your own hosting which is generally around $6.95 per month.
8. Do I have to sign a contract?
No, but if you are on a payment plan and your monthly charge does not go through, we request that you rectify this on your own as quickly as possible. If we do not hear from you within 3 business days from the time your payment is declined, we reserve the right to bill you for the full amount owed that will be due immediately.
9. Do I have to set up email marketing on my website?
No, it is your choice, but it is highly recommended. You’ll notice that very few health practitioners implement this, but it truly is one of the most important features of your website.
10. Can you build my whole site in wordpress? What are the pros and cons of doing this?
There really aren't any disadvantages to building your site in wordpress while the benefits are many. Wordpress gives you more control over your site so you can easily add content. It's more dynamic and interactive because it allows comments and social media integration. Wordpress is also great for SEO, as google really likes Wordpress sites right now.
11. What if I already have a website but I want it to be redesigned? Do I need to sign up for the whole web package?
You’ll want to sign up for a free 20 minute web consult with Kevin to have him look at your site or just fill out the form there and leave your domain name so he can look at it, then send his suggestions via email. Most of the time, we do have to rebuild the website from scratch. It just depends on what you want and what we think will be most beneficial from a marketing perspective.
12. I want to add an online shopping cart to my website. Can you do this for me?
Yes, but it is an extra charge of $65 per hour until it is completed. Depending on how extensive the shopping cart is, this generally takes us between 1-3 hours of additional work.
13. What service should I use for email marketing and for a shopping cart?
We highly recommend 2 services:
  • AWEBER - if you don’t plan on selling products on your website.
  • 1shoppingcart - if you want to have an all-in-one email marketing and shopping cart system.
14. Does it cost extra to add youtube videos to my website?
No, we include this in the basic package
15. What are the additional expenses I can expect on top of the basic web package?
  • Hosting - generally around $6.95 per month.
  • Email marketing - generally around $20 per month
16. Can you guarantee that I will get a certain number of patients/clients from my website?
No, we can not guarantee any kind of specific result from your website as this is beyond our control. What we can do is build you a site with all the necessary elements for success based on what we have seen work in the past.
17. How much help will I get on the copy for my website? Do I have to do all the writing myself?
It is up to each client to send us the content for their website. We do not do any of the writing on our end. If you request it, Kevin will review the copy for your home page to make sure it is written effectively. If you're an acupuncturist, you are allowed to borrow heavily from Kevin's website to make the writing as easy as possible. If you want Kevin to write the copy for any of your pages, he can do this for an extra fee. When you sign up for the package, you will get a training video that lays out how to craft the copy for your home page.

Search Engine Optimization FAQ's

1. How do I know whether I need basic or advanced SEO?
Everyone needs at least basic SEO on their site. You would benefit from advanced SEO if you practice in a competitive area--like a big city where there are a lot of practitioners competing for online space. Otherwise it will be very difficult--if not impossible-- to get on the first page of Google.
2. Do you guarantee that you’ll get my practice on the first page of Google?
Unfortunately we can not guarantee first page Google results. What we can guarantee is that we will do everything within our power to make this happen. We are optimizing your chances (this is why it’s called search engine optimization instead of search engine guarantee).

After 3 months of SEO, we will assess your rankings and give you an honest evaluation of where to go from there. If you practice in a highly competitive market, we may need to do 1-2 more months of link building.

As a side note, be wary of companies that guarantee first page results. They are often using black hat techniques that can get you in trouble.

If you are doing the web package or you have signed up for our basic SEO services, you will likely get high Google rankings if you practice in an area without much online competition. Otherwise, you will likely need to sign up for advanced SEO to optimize your chances for high rankings.
3. How exactly does link building work as part of the advanced SEO process?
Our article writer who will write 5 articles per week on content related to your primary modality. We will then submit this content to social sites like Squidoo, Hubpages, and Ning, along with various social bookmarking sites.

We will also submit 1 article per week through several hundred article directories, creating unique variations of that article for each directory. The articles will contain hyperlinks with the main keywords we are competing for to boost your rankings.
4. Is there a maintenance program for the advanced SEO ? Is this necessary?
If you practice in a highly competitive area, then you’ll likely need to do some ongoing SEO to maintain high rankings. We will discuss your situation at the 3 month point of the advanced SEO process to discuss what the next step is, if any.
